I apologize for falling a few days behind in this project. I am still getting these once-a-week posts up, and I am still getting my photos up each day, but I do realize that I need to get back on top of the timing for it. Ah well.
This particular photo is from a larger set. I haven’t done much in the way of shooting with models yet (this marks my third, although I have a fourth lined up with ideas for a fifth and sixth), so I’m always excited when one sort of just appears on my radar with a unique idea or situation. This friend of mine apparently spins poi, which from my understanding means ludicrously bright flags that make really cool snapping sounds as they make their circuits around her. If you’ve ever seen fire dancing, this is sort of a minor league version of that (I believe).
It was kind of a windy day when we took these, so the flags are doing some cool puffing and flapping in the breeze in a few pictures. If you’re interested in seeing the larger set, you can find it here. I plan on expanding that as we find new places and new equipment for her (such as flags lined with LED lights). If you have any ideas for cool spots in or around Boston we could use for something like this, let me know (comments, e-mail, messenger pigeon – whatever works). You know me, I’m always open for new ideas.

Sorry this is a few days late. I’ve been a bit busy, and have been remarkably productive. Time has a habit of getting away from me when I’m being so active, though. Ah well. Better two days late then never, right?
I think this picture speaks for itself. Alternatively, it’s an existentialist nightmare. To each their own, I suppose.

I like to walk to work from the train each day. I end up getting about two miles walking in each day because of this. It also means I get to see plenty of sights along the way. Most are just Berklee hipsters and homeless people lounging around (I cannot always tell which is which). One sight I always see are pigeons.
I’m not just talking occasional pigeons flying around, either. There is a flock of pigeons that live at the intersection of Mass Ave and Huntington Ave. We’re talking a group of city pigeons here, the kind that paint the sidewalks white and make you wish you had never watched Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds when you were still young and impressionable.
My favorite of these pigeons (that is a weird phrase to type, by the way) is this one that I (along with a coworker) have nicknamed Bob. Bob is kind of a dick, in a hilarious way. Whenever I see Bob, he is puffed the hell up, strutting his pigeon stuff, and physically pushing other pigeons around. I don’t know what his problem is with the other pigeons, but it’s apparently pretty constant, because pigeons will half fly and hop away, and he’ll just waddle right into them again. He will veer into pigeons, just to make his point. I recently captured Bob on camera, although the other pigeon had taken off before my camera’s shutter could snap.
Without further adieu: meet Bob the Kind of a Dick Pigeon.

I hope you all enjoy your weekends, and to all my American friends: stay safe when you’re blowing up chunks of our country on its birthday!

So, recently on Travis’s daily picture blog, he mentioned how he always carries his camera with him nowadays, and how you should always keep your eyes open for picture opportunities. Well, I’m here to tell you he’s right.
A day or two ago, the light in front of my apartment’s door went out. This is, of course, a problem, given that the skylight in the stairwell is so small. Today, I was leaving to go hit up Chansky’s when I open the door and pause. In front of me, the light from the skylight was filtering straight down, lighting up the railings and leaving the stairs themselves in darkness. Naturally, I turned right back around, grabbed my camera and a tripod, and got a few pictures. It really is amazing what you can get when you’re willing to just keep your eyes open for the world around you.
As a side note, I’m glad the weather finally heated up. I hope it remains clear this week – I’ve been wanting to get a sunset off the Mass. Ave bridge, and this weather is perfect for it. Well, keep your fingers crossed. In the meantime, have a couple pictures of the stairwell in question:
